1. Thursday. Arrival at Quito.

in Quito, transfer to hotel. Overnight hotel Fuente de Piedra

2.
Friday:
CITY TOUR & MIDDLE OF THE WORLD
Breakfast.
Visit to the Ecuadorian capital’s colonial past, declared by
UNESCO a "World Cultural Heritage." Quito invites you
to visit its historic and modern treasures. You start the tour
visiting modern and colonial districts. First, the "Balcon
Quiteño", the Legislative Palace, the colonial center, the
Independence Plaza, the Carondelet Palace (Government Palace)
the Metropolitan Cathedral,
"La Compañía" and "San Francisco" churches
and a drive to "El Panecillo" hill for a marvelous
panoramic view of the city. In the
afternoon visit to The world famous Equator, “Mitad del Mundo”
locted only 30 kms from Quito. |
Here
you will have the opportunity to jump from the Northern
Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. In the 18th century the
French Geodesic Expedition arrived here to perform
important researches and investigate the Earth’s actual form.
Visit to the monument and an interesting Ethnologic Museum
nearby where you will have a chance to get familiar with all the
different cultures of Ecuador.
Return to Quito, overnight.

3. Saturday:
QUITO – OTAVALO – IBARRA
Breakfast.
Early bus departure from Quito through to the North on the
"Panamericana." We will visit Otavalo, 95 km
north of Quito, famous for its Saturday Indiant market Wonder
around the colorful Indian market, visit the "Plaza del
Poncho." Take wonderful pictures and admire the
Otavalo Indians in their typical costumes. This place is perfect
to purchase leather products, crafts, great ceramics, ponchos that
all testify to
the skilful artistry of these aboriginal people |

4. Sunday OTAVALO - MACHACHI |

After
breakfast visit
to Cotacachi, a town mainly dedicated to manufacture of fine
leather goods
and walk around the Cuicocha Lake. In the afternoon head South
on the Panamerican Avenue to machachi. Overnight

5. Monday COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK - DRIVE TO BANOS
After breakfast
visit the Cotopaxi National Park which lays at the foot of the
world's highest
active snow-capped volcano . The road will take us to the
Limpiopungo Lake. Drive to Banos, you will stop to visit the
Salasaca Indian community. These people are experts weaving
testiles and rugs woven on their traditional looms. Overnight.

6. Tuesday. BANOS - NAPO - COTOCOCHA LODGE
Breakfast. Baños is a quaint Andean
town surrounded by snowcapped volcanoes and has wonderful healthy
hot spring waters. For years it has been the place to which
Ecuadorians make pilgrimages to honor the Virgen de Agua Santa
(Our Lady of the Holy Water), whose statue is housed in the
basilica in the center of town. In the last decade, Baños became
an ecotourism destination. Its pleasant sub tropical climate and
its extraordinary landscape and vegetation are very welcoming,
especially after the chill of the highlands. After visit of
surroundings drive to
Napo. Arrival to the Lodge in the afternoon and relax in the
beautiful spacious bungalow built in a rustic native design
surrounded by gardens. A delicious dinner will be served in a
romantic candlelight-setting at the attractively decorated
restaurant. Afterwards we will enjoy a special welcome drink,
relaxing ourselves around the fireplace, to coordinate and discuss
next day activities with the local crew.

Day
7. Wednesday.JUNGLE ACTIVITY
After breakfast, we depart by
canoe upstream for ten minutes, arriving to a small shore where we
begin a fun and thrilling one hour walk, marveling ourselves with
the jungle’s secondary forest diverse flora and fauna. After our
short hike, we’ll find ourselves in a breathtaking cascade “La
Cascada de Latas” where we will take a refreshing bath in its
clear crystal waters and enjoy the surrounding views, which, mixed
with the jungle sounds, makes it a unforgettable experience.
We return along the same way to have lunch at the lodge.
After lunch we put on our “wet gear” (rubber
boots & rain poncho) to start an exciting walk in the jungle’s
primary forest ready to find the secret wonders of the mysterious
hidden jungle, finding amazing plant species with medicinal
properties, which will be explained in detail by our expert native
guide: their characteristics and how the jungle inhabitants used
them in ancient times.
We’ll also observe a great variety of insects, small groups of
monkeys weaving around the giant trees; though we will need some
luck to observe them, we must stay very quiet to admire these
beautiful creatures. Dozens of curious colorful birds tag along
with us during our walk whistling enchanted notes delighting our
senses.
After about three hours of walking we come back and arrive to the
Lodge. At night, enjoy a delicious dinner and relax by the
fireplace while trying one of the many exotic cocktails or drinks
from our bar. |

8. Thursday. NAPO - RIOBAMBA
After breakfast, we will have
to prepare ourselves for the diverse drive to Riobamba. Overnight.

9. Friday. TRAIN TRIP INGAPIRCA CUENCA
On Wednesdays, Fridays and
Sundays, the train leaves
from the station at the city of Riobamba, passes through
Cajabamba and the Colta lagoons, and the small Guamote village.
It climbs to a little picturesque town in the highlands called
Alausí. Then comes the most exhilarating part of the journey,
said to be one of the most spectacular in the world. The train
zigzags up and down 45-degree gradient called "Nariz del Diablo"
(Devil’s Nose) in a breathtaking experience. The train goes
backwards on the way down, and then returns to
Alausí. After train trip continue to visit the Ingapirca ruins,
located in the province of Cañar. Ingapirca means “Incas stone
wall”. It is believed today that Ingapirca was both a religious
and administrative center, as well as a fortress. The Incas
built the complex on top of an old Cañari settlement. The vast
archeological complex of the ruins includes a roofless
fortification,
courtyards, terraces, temples, houses and a “castle”, possibly
the “Temple of the Sun”.

10. Saturday. CUENCA
CITY – CHORDELEG – GUALACEO
Breakfast.
Cuenca is one of Ecuador’s colonial jewels, with orderly
classified cobblestone streets, excellent houses and buildings
characterized by their elegant and unique metal balconies,
adorned with abundant spring plants. Typical markets and stores
show the region’s cultural wealth, a heredity of its Indian
ancestors. Cuenca is one of Ecuador’s most visited cities. The
city tour starts along the
Tomebamba River. |
You will admire lovely balconies, tiles, pink
marble stone and wood with which most of its
fantastic houses
are built. The city tour ends with a walk around the ancient
city, where you will find enchanting churches, cloisters,
museums, and houses. Visit to the valley of Gualaceo where you
will find a wide range of artistic work. In Chordeleg you may
admire or purchase gold jewelry.

11. Sunday CUENCA
– EL CAJAS NATIONAL PARK – GUAYAQUIL
Breakfast. Trip
to El Cajas National Park located 21 miles away from Cuenca. The
altitude ranges from 9.840 to
11.480 feet. This 71.186-acre area
includes mountains and 232 lagoons of glacier origin, connected
with each other
by small rivers and streams. Two
of the rivers surrounding Cuenca, Tomebamba and Yanuncay, are
born in this area. Continue your trip to Guayaquil, Ecuador’s
most important port and the largest city with near 3 million
inhabitants. Overnight.

Day 12.
Monday GUAYAQUIL
- PUERTO LOPEZ
Breakfast. Drive through the Sun Route passing by beautiful
fisherman towns and amazing beaches. Arrive to Puerto Lopez, where
Machalilla National Park is located, south region of Manabi. This
is the unique continental insular park in Ecuador that makes it
one of the places
with big recreational possibilities. Overnight. |

13. Tuesday ISLA DE LA PLATA
Early morning after breakfast, you will take the boat that
leaves to Isla de la Plata, the trip will
take about two hours and a half. On the way to the island, during
the months of June to
September you are able to see whales and dolphins, mammals that
come from Antarctica to
mate and give birth to their baby’s. Once in you arrive to the
island, you will disembark in Drake bay and hike for around three
hours, by paths where you will observe endemic flora and fauna of
this Ecuadorian zone. The island is a resting colonial place for
the: blue-foot booby, red and camouflaged birds, tropical birds
and albatross. Eventually from a cliff we can see a small
colony of seals and sharks. Embark and exit up to an area which
gives the possibility to
snorkel for a period of 30 minutes. Return to Puerto Lopez.
Overnight. Day
14 - Wednesday - RETURN TO GUAYAQUIL - TRANSFER OUT
After breakfast, take a walk around
the National Park of Machalilla, unique for its different
habitats, pre-Colombian archeology, beautiful landscapes combined
with colorful fisherman
towns. This is the archeological zone of Agua Blanca.
Return to Guayaquil for late transfer to the airport for
international flight, or for overnight (this last night is not
included in the program, check for additional nights).
