Music Tour of Germany - Escorted Groups

Brandenburg Concertos

 In Memory of the Saxon Masters

Visit the homes, concert halls and places where these great musicians lived and created some of the most outstanding compositions of the classical music world. You will be escorted by extremely competent guides who will be able to answer all your queries and help you in any way possible in order for you to enjoy this unique experience. In addition to the many music related sights, you will have the privilege of glimpsing places of great historical value, including the former head office of East Germany's KGB and Luther's Wittenberg, the most important city in the history of Christian reformation.

Day 1.  Arrival in Berlin around noon, transfer to the hotel. Afternoon at your leisure to recover from jet lag. Dinner and overnight in Berlin, a cultural metropolis of myriad of theatres, many opera houses and some of the greatest museums in the world.

Day 2.  General and music tour of Berlin with inside visit of the outstanding Pergamon museum famous for its renowned Pergamon Altar from Asia Minor and the Babylonian Ishtar Gate. In the evening transfer to a concert at the Berlin Philharmonics, boasting one of the best orchestras in the world. Dinner and accommodation in Berlin.

Day 3.  Excursion to Potsdam, jewel in Branderburg's crown, where we visit Schloss Sanssouci, the flamboyant garden palace of the Prussian king, Frederick, the Great. We also take you to Cecilienhof, the charming manor house that hosted the historic 1945 Potsdam Conference, where Truman, Churchill and Stalin met to decide the fate of post-war Germany and Europe. The highlight of today is the visit to the "Forbidden City", with inside tour of the former KGB buildings. Dinner and overnight in Berlin.

Day 4.  Travel to Wittenberg, the cradle of reformation. Visit Luther's house and the Castle Church to whose door he nailed his Thesis and where he lies buried. Afternoon transfer to Leipzig. After a short rest and dinner we'll walk over to the renowned Gewandhouse, for an evening concert by one of the most exquisite orchestras in the world. Overnight in Leipzig.

Day 5. Music tour of Leipzig and area. A trading centre since the 12th century, Leipzig is often called the "City of Books", or the "City of Music". It was the home of J.S. Bach and Richard Wagner, the place where Goethe created his famous Faust. Visit Thomas Church, where Bach used to be the Choirmaster, the Aucherbach Cellar, where Goethe spent many evenings collecting ideas for his "Faust". We'll travel to Handel's birthplace in nearby Halle and to Wagner's residence in Naumburg. Afternoon transfer to Dresden. After dinner, enjoy an opera performance in the newly rebuilt Semper Opera House. Overnight in Dresden.

Day 6.  Music and general city tour of Dresden including inside visit of the "Old Masters Gallery" in the palace of Zwinger. Visit to Graupa and the Richard Wagner House and to Hosterwitz with the Carl-Maria-Weber museum. Dinner at the famous "Pappritzer Hof", the historic restaurant close to Wagner's former residence. Overnight in Dresden.

Day 7.  After breakfast excursion to Meissen. Visit the celebrated china factory, followed by wine tasting and lunch in the historic Vincenz Richter wine cellar. Transfer to Weimar, city of Liszt, Goethe and Schiller. City tour of old Weimar. Dinner and overnight in Weimar.

Day 8  After breakfast departure to Bayreuth, the famous festival town. Your visit of Bayreuth includes a guided music tour with the Richard Wagner museum, Liszt house and the Margravial Opera House, this most beautiful baroque jewel. Backstage tour of the Festival Hall built by Wagner’s unique design (closed on days of rehearsals). In the evening you arrive in the Franconian capital, Nuernberg. Dinner in a typical Franconian restaurant. Overnight in Nuernberg.

Day 9  Your day starts with a city tour of Nuernberg including the Albrecht Duerer museum and the fortress. Early afternoon transfer to the Bavarian capital, Munich. City tour of Munich, followed by a farewell Bavarian dinner with beer tasting. Overnight in Munich.

Dat 10  Free time, then transfer to the airport to board the flight back to your home city.
