Rhine cruise with classical music perfromances

A perfect cruise for music-lovers! Enjoy a musical journey from the canals of Amsterdam, passing trough the mythical Loreley rock, Bohn, Speyer and Strasbourg, down as far as Basel in Switzerland. During this trip a magnificent ensemble will entertain you with the fine renditions of classical music. You can also book for extra charge fascinating excursions around the many stopping points on your journey along the beautiful Rhine. We also offer classical music cruises on the Danube river.

Day 1 Amsterdam
Embarkation to your Rhine cruise ship start at 4 p.m. in the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam. After embarking and settling into your cabin join us for a Welcome Cocktail followed by a special Welcome Dinner. This evening evening's concert features the sounds of Mozart and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, a major pianist, organist and composer on the German musical scene in a special concert onboard - a wonderful beginning to your cruise.(Program: Mozart Divertimento kv 138 and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's String Quarter no6)

Day 2 Amsterdam - Utrecht
This morning we all go on a city tour of Amsterdam to see its most important buildings, canals and and monuments and learn much about the city's history. We will also  visit the beautiful Dominicus Church for a private concert. Relax as you listen to the music of Schubert and Schumann performed by  the Dudok quartet. Driving through the charming countryside of canals an quaint villages we in the north of Holland, where we rejoin our ship for a peaceful and relaxing afternoon onboard.

Day 3 Cologne - Bohn
Arrival Cologne in the morning. After breakfast join a guided city walk of the 2000 year old settlement which was founded on the orders of the Roman Emperor Claudius. You will see Cologne's most important sights: its central old quarter, the cathedral, the town hall, the Guerzenich, the city walls and gate, churches and historic squares. From the bank of the Rhine there is a fine view of the entire old quarter after which you visit the cathedral, which is Cologne's icon and Germanys largest cathedral. Lunch on board, then we continue sailing to Bohn, the city of Beethoven. Enjoy a  guided visit the Beethoven House followed by a piano concert in the Beethoven house/museum. (Sonata no 14 and 21). We sail to our next ports of call, Cohem at night.

Day 4 Cohem
Morning arrival Cochem, the romantic wine growing village on the shore of the gentle Moselle river at noon. In the afternoon explore the romatic town of half-timbered houses on your own or take a walking tour through this quaint small town with its fine medieval town gate and market place overlooked by a Romantic looking castle. Also visit a tavern for a wine tasting session. In the evening the vessel leaves Cochem. This evening enjoy an exclusive concert onboard by music of Haydn and Mendelsohn-Bartholdy. (Haydn String Quartet  Op 642, Mendelshon  String Quartet in D major. Later in the evening continue sailing toward Koblenz, an inmportant historic center at the confluence of  two rivers.

Day 5 Koblenz  - Rudesheim
Arrival Koblenz in the morning of the city overlooking the Moselle and Rhine rivers, a former major Roman military fort in ancient times dating back to over two thousand years.  After your sightseeing we sail through the most romantic part of the Rhine region. Enjoy a musical tea party onboard, taking in the passing scenery while listening to beautiful musical pieces from the world of opera
and waltz. (Schubert, Beethoven, Kreisler) Before dinner arrive in Rudesheim, where you will have the opportunity to visit the charming old wine town with its long narrow street lined on both sides with wine taverns, very popular with tourists.The tour also includes visit to Siegfrieds Mechanical Music Museum, where all kinds of mechanical musical instruments from barrel organs and music boxes to horn gramophones are displayed.

We will sail by castles and castle ruins toward the famous Loreley Rock eternalized by the legendary the golden-haired maid with her mesmerizing songs that led sailors to their demise.

Day 6 Speyer
Morning arrival  in Speyer, the old imperial city on the Rhine with a rich and turbulent past. Religious architecture steeped in history, impressive facades of various styles, winding alleys and romantic squares characterize it. The optional guided walk through the city includes a visit to its impressive cathedral. In the afternoon join an excursion to Heidelberg, home to Germany's oldest university founded in 1386. Our guided tour features a visit to the city's imposing castle ruin with fantastic views overlooking the Neckar River and a walking tour through the historic old quarter and the market place. We return to the ship in the evening whre we will enhoy a festive Captain's Gala Dinner tonight.

Morning arrival in Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with its romantic half timbered houses, elegant buildings and unique German-French culture. After breakfast, take a guided tour of the city. Strassburg is definitely well worth visiting for the combination of its history, its cuisine and its unique atmosphere. The tour ends with an organ concert of Bach, Handel and Mozart at the St. Thomas  Church. Afternoon at leisure. This evening, complete your musical journey with a farewell concert celebrating the music of Mozart and Dvorak.

Day 8 Basel
Morning arrival at Basel. Disembarkation or
discover Switzerland on these independent tours.
